The Saint Martin's experience: MARIBOR & JERUZALEM WINE HILLS

Begin your experience in Slovenia's second-largest city, situated on the banks of the Drava River and surrounded by the wine-growing hills of Štajerska. 

Maribor has a particularly strong connection with wine: the city is home to the world's oldest grapevine, with a history of more than 450 years. Continue on a guided tour towards Lent, where you discover the rich history of  the city.

In the afternoon drive east through the rolling landscape of Slovenske gorice towards Ljutomer–Ormož, one of Slovenia's most important wine-growing areas. The journey itself becomes part of the experience as the landscape changes from city to vineyards.

Arrive in the Jeruzalem Hills. This is one of the most picturesque wine landscapes in Slovenia. The region has a wine-growing tradition going back roughly 2,400 years. Stop in the village of Jeruzalem. Visit the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows and enjoy the panoramic views over the vineyards.

This is one of the best locations for a wine-country photo stop. Continue to a Vineyard Cottage, located in the heart of the Jeruzalem vineyards. 

First, immerse yourself in the atmosphere of Martinovanje – Saint Martin's wine celebration.

Saint Martin's Day marks the traditional transformation of must into young wine. In this Region, the celebrations traditionally culminate around 11 November, with the ceremonial baptism of the must and celebrations featuring wine, food, music and local traditions.

Enjoy a festive dinner inspired by Styrian traditions, accompanied by local wines. The menu can include roast goose or duck, mlinci, red cabbage, traditional Slovenian specialties and regional desserts.

The evening continues with wine tasting, live music and a festive toast to the new vintage. The only thing that is left to be said in »Cheers!« or in Slovenian: "Na zdravje!"
